MURDOCH BACKS CONSERVATIVES

For those of you who haven't heard about or seen this yet, it's the best piece of news the Country has had in years - Rupert Murdoch has decided that enough is enough and given his support back to the Conservatives after 12 years of backing "New" Labour. We have yet to see if this change of direction will also apply to Sky News but I do find it somewhat encouraging that losing the support of The Sun newspaper, was described as "the last nail in the coffin" by Adam Boulton - the most direct language I have heard him use regarding Labour in quite some time.

Here are some of the main points of The Sun's front page story.

The real story of the Labour years is one of under-achievement, rank failure and a vast expansion of wasteful government interference in everyone's lives. They cannot disguise the failures of Labour in Government over the last 12 years, many of them embarrassingly laid bare by the PM's own words yesterday.

Britain feels broken . . . and the Government is out of excuses.

Labour FAILED on law and order. Knife murders are soaring, smirking criminals routinely walk free in the name of political correctness, while decent people live in a virtual police state of snooping cameras and petty officials empowered to spy and to punish.

Labour FAILED on schools. Four in 10 kids leave those shiny new classrooms still unable to read, write or add up properly. We are plummeting down international league tables for maths and literacy, but every year "grade inflation" ensures record GCSE and A-level passes to fuel Government propaganda.

Labour FAILED on health - spending billions on clipboard-ticking target managers instead of on frontline care.

Labour FAILED on immigration, opening our borders without any regard to the consequences. Illegal migrants and bogus asylum seekers poured in.

Labour FAILED the children they claimed to have made their priority. After 12 years of Blair and Brown, Britain is officially the WORST country in the developed world in which to grow up.

Most disgracefully of all, Labour FAILED our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, leaving them to die through chronic under-funding and the shambolic leadership of dismal Defence Secretaries like Bob Ainsworth.

Billions blown employing a useless layer of public service middle-managers like those who condemned Baby P to die.

Billions more spent, insanely, making benefits more lucrative than a pay cheque - creating a huge, idle underclass for whom work is a dirty word. And all along the Government has had one overriding concern: Itself.

Labour's driving ambition has not been to improve Britain. It has been to retain power at all costs - with no lie judged too great in its ruthless and relentless self-promotion.

They promised a referendum on Europe. They claimed they had ended "boom and bust". They tried to con the public with promises of endless investment, when they knew they would have to cut.

They have had that chance and failed.

  1. Murdoch hops onto the bandwagon. That's news?

  2. The only thing I can say, D, is that if there was any doubt in anyone's mind that Labour is dead and buried, there isn't anymore.
Having said that, your comment is bang on the money, mate!

  3. Nothing new for him, Nickie, but one hell of a shock for McDoom as the Sun has backed Labour for 12 years and is read by around 10,000,000 people who will now be influenced to vote Conservative.
Denverthen sums it all up pretty well in his comment below.

  4. That's good that Murdoch is backing the Conservative Party. The Sun abandoning the Labour Party is a pretty amazing feat. The Labour Party has failed in so many ways. They definitely gotta go.

BTW- For some reason blogger won't let me sign in using this application so I used my twitter acct. It says I don't exist LOL

  5. That is probably not the final nail in the coffin: it is more like the final spadeful of dirt on the grave.

  6. It seems your new comments list doesn't recognise me. (Sigh) story of my life ...

  7. This is the news I have been waiting for. It has taken 12 years to long.
The Sun and Murdoch should hang their heads in shame as they have helped keep this Tin Pot junta in power for over 12 years even though Tony Blair and McDoom have systematically destroyed this country.
Deciding to switch their support over to the Conservatives at this late hour does not take away the part they played in supporting this Junta.
As for Adam Bolton, I find it highly amusing that he who was one of Tony Blairs best buddies should be so critical of the government now

  8. I don't really know if the best piece of news is that Rupert Murdoch apparently controls this country's political fortunes

I don't buy into the theory that the Sun has that much power - they just know which way the wind is blowing and back the winners

If they do control elections then it's pretty sad that it took them this long to say labour failed on all those policies

  9. Excuse the expletive-ridden rant, BS - must be all that time I spent Down Under ;) . I don't much like Rupert Murdoch, as you can see. I think he's had us by the short and curlies in this country for far too long.

But you are, of course, bang on the money too: it is the final nail in Labour's coffin - of that there can be no doubt.

Stay well, cobber. I'm off to tie me kangaroo down :)

  10. Hope that kangaroo doesn't put up too much of a fight, D, or you could do yourself an injury! ;)

  11. It's been twelve years too long in coming, Teresa, but it obviously suited Murdoch.

I'll see if I can get to the bottom of the Blogger ID problem - it's supposed to be integrated and should recognise you! WTF!! *DONT_KNOW*

  12. Dead on, Edgar, tamped it down nicely, too! :-D

  13. Teresa said the same thing, Edgar, but it worked when she used her Twitter account!? It's supposed to recognise your Blogger ID and I'll see what I can find out/fix, but, other than the ID problem, I really like it. :-[

  14. Strange that Murdoch supports the Republican point of view in the US, AOM. It's all about him and what is best for him at any particular time or in any particular place - pure expediency. Now he is jumping ship like the rest of the rats and supporting the Tories - that should see him all right for another couple of decades, as far as Britain is concerned.
That said, you've got to admire the timing - it was impeccable! Any self-congratulatory knees-up that the Labour party were having after their conference would have been immediately turned into a wake!! And with the Tory conference coming up next week........ they're doomed!!!
As for Boulton, he left his first wife for that "Tony's gatekeeper" bitch, Anji Hunter, so his loyalties will always be in question - he is no longer an impartial journalist, no matter how much he tries to appear to be.
    It's been a good day, AOM. 8-)

  15. It is pretty sad, Tarquin, and he does have that much control, unfortunately. Where the Sun will really score a direct hit is with the one million floating voters who will make a huge difference between a respectable win and a landslide. :-D

  16. It's great news! The end of 12 years of misery is nigh.

PS: You got probs with your comments, Spidey? I can only see yours! ;-)

  17. One day left at the conference. Will it go out with a squeak from Harriet, or will a big finale in the form of embarrassment occur?

Regardless, The Sun will be breathing down Labour's neck all the way to the election, with all those months to go...

  18. Apparently the place is deserted, VotR, makes me wonder if anyone will bother to televise much of it, except BBC Pravda, of course. It seems the tumbleweeds are flying around all over the place - it would have been Nokias last night! :-D

  19. Took The Sun long enough to jump ship and even then not with its Weslsh and scottish editions. :-D

  20. I would think that Murdoch was the only one holding things up, Banned. The timing could have been a lot earlier like when Snotty first nosedived in the opinion polls after the "election that never was", but, having said that, this timing is lethal for Labour. I don't think it matters about the Scottish and Welsh editions as many national stories will still be printed in both.
The SNP, (not that they're any better), have got them beaten in Scotland and Wales is Labour through and through, although again, having said that, the map of Wales turned blue in the European election.
The really important area is the north of England where Labour's vote has now collapsed and that happened before the Sun changed sides.
                                     :-D
To my amazement, after such a long standing Lefty bias, Sky News appears to be following the Sun's change of allegiance if Adam Boulton's interview with McFucknuts is indicative. That particular interview won't have helped him to keep many of Labour's obliging friends at Sky!
